Being happy has become an obsession. However, we feel more dissatisfied than ever. In this book, Emily Esfahani Smith argues that we are pursuing the wrong goal. It's not happiness that makes life worthwhile—it's the meaning we give to it. But the search for meaning has taken on an esoteric connotation, as if one needed to travel to a distant monastery or leaf through dusty books to discover life's secrets. Based on the latest research from sociologists, psychologists, and philosophers, the author shows us how we can bring meaning to the various spheres of our lives. The power of meaning encourages the reader to prioritize a life that allows for introspection and wonder, to cultivate a sense of community, and to deepen our relationship with others and with ourselves.
